Sophia turned 3 last week and we threw a big dinosaur birthday party, it was such a fun day! We got lots of compliments and I’m excited to share how everything turned out!
I love prepping for birthday parties, I truly enjoy it! I tend to go all out for birthday parties and just love planning them for my girls! This one is probably one of my favorite birthday parties because of the metallic and earthy colors, while still being girly with the pinks and purples.
Balloon Arch
I decided to buy a balloon garland pack from Amazon that had an assortment of different sized balloons, and LOVED the combination of colors! They were perfect for the dinosaur theme. I used my balloon pump to blow up the balloons, which saved so much time. Then, I added them to a balloon arch strip. Hanging the arch to the wall is always the toughest part but having a few extra hands is always helpful.
I added palm leaves that I got from Target in between balloons to give it a “jungle vibe”. I also added the three rex letter balloons to the backdrop that I got from Amazon.
The balloon arch was easy to put together since I had the help of my husband the night before the party. Sophia’s favorite dinosaur is the T Rex so it was perfect that I added “Three Rex” to the backdrop. I love how it all came together!
Dessert Table
Sophia requested a dinosaur birthday cake, so I decided at the last minute to make one myself! I asked several local bakers how much a two-tier customized dinosaur cake would cost and they all told me $150 or higher! I just couldn’t spend that much money on a cake.
So I watched a lot of YouTube videos and found a funfetti cake recipe that looked yummy. I made the cake from scratch and ended up making it 4 times! I learned pretty quickly that making homemade cakes is a lot of work haha.
I used 6 inch pans for the top tier and 8 inch pans for the bottom tier. I made American buttercream from scratch, and used food coloring to make it light pink. I attempted to make a naked cake which means that there isn’t a ton of frosting on the exterior of the cake. I probably could have scraped more buttercream off, and added more between the layers of cake. The cake ended up tasting delicious, and Sophia loved it!
The gold dinosaur figurines and sprinkles are from Amazon, and the happy birthday cake topper is from Safeway. The pink party plates are from Target.
These cookies were such a big hit! I love having customized cookies at our birthday parties. A friend of mine made these dinosaur cookies for us and she did such a great job!
Bounce House
We rented a bounce house at Sophia’s birthday last year and knew we had to do it again this year. It’s definitely a splurge but the kids truly enjoyed it. We invited a lot of kids this time, so I knew it was going to be needed especially since we have a small backyard. Sophia even jumped in it for hours after her party was over!
Decorations
I used this chalkboard to write a birthday message on it and placed it by our front door. I used liquid chalk markers, and loved the vibrant colors of them. The party favor bags were fun to put together! I bought these dinosaur bags from Amazon, aren’t they super cute!?
Sophia’s Outfit
It ended up being such a beautiful, warm day and this dress was perfect for her birthday party. The dinosaur dress is from Amazon, and her white sparkly shoes are from Converse.
We had the best day celebrating miss Sophia turning three! She’s at such a fun age right now, always asking questions and curious about everything. She’s sweet and sassy, and full of personality!
