Hey friends, I hope you’re doing great! I wanted to fill you in on what’s been going on over here. There have been a lot of changes with the girls and some life updates that I wanted to chat about!
Social Media Break
At the beginning of the year, I took a social media break for about a month and felt like I needed to take a step back and just use this time to reflect and focus my time with my family.
As my girls are getting older, I realize that I value my time so much more now. I wanted to be more intentional with my time on social media. Social media is such a comparison game. It seems like we only see all the perfect moments and all the nice things that people have.
I truly enjoy sharing motherhood and lifestyle content on my blog but I also try to be honest and real. I plan to be more transparent on Instagram and share things that can be more relatable. The time spent away from social media was so needed. I think I’ll do this every year just to give myself a fresh restart.
Sick Season Is Upon Us
Last month, our whole family ended up getting Covid for the first time ever. Can I just say that Covid is awful! Especially being sick and having to take care of your kids, it’s so tough. My husband was sick first, so I’m thinking he brought it home from work. And then we all got sick one after the other.
Amelia did get pretty sick with a nasty cough. Poor girl cried for three days straight and just wanted to be held. I ended up taking her to urgent care because she was miserable. The doctor gave her a steroid for the cough. I was the only one that lost my sense of taste and smell which did come back after two weeks.
Then, my girls got sick with a stomach bug! My husband ended up getting it too, but luckily I never caught it. I feel like we’ve been doing laundry constantly and just cleaning everything! This has definitely been our sickest season yet. As of now, everyone is healthy and doing so much better!
Life Lately With Toddlers
I seriously love being a girl mom. I’m so grateful that I have two little girls who keep me on my toes. They couldn’t be more different from one another. Sophia is 3 years and 4 months old. Amelia is 1 year and 9 months old. They’re such busy bodies and love to play all day long!
Sophia has recently dropped her afternoon nap and has transitioned into having quiet time. We decided it was time to drop her nap all together because some days she wouldn’t nap until later in the day and then would result in a late bedtime. It was a battle to try and get her to nap everyday.
She has been loving quiet time in her room, we’ve been keeping it around an hour which seems good for her. I’m sure we’ll lengthen it as she gets older. And honestly, I’ve been loving this new switch because by 7:30 she is exhausted and ready for bed!
Sophia also recently joined dance. She is in a ballet and tap combo class and loves it. I did dance as well and did cheerleading in high school, so I feel like my mom dreams are coming true haha! I think dance has been good for her socially and physically. Since she’s more physically active, she’s eating a lot more. Sophia has always been on the smaller side so getting her to eat more calories has been my mission lately. Whereas her little sister has no issue getting enough calories in haha!
Amelia takes one nap everyday around 12:30. She is a great sleeper and has been since the beginning! Mia’s vocabulary has expanded so much lately. She is really loving books right now. She is always asking to read books and talks more and more each day. Both of my girls started saying words at around 9 months old. They were early talkers but late walkers! I also think it’s helped that Mia has a big sister that is constantly talking.
Another thing I’ve been focusing on is cutting back on screen time and implementing preschool at home. We’ve been doing lots of sensory play so that they’re not always asking to watch tv. This has been a struggle lately so I’m constantly trying to find ways to keep them entertained. Sophia is loving all of the arts and crafts whereas Mia would rather be outside playing.
It’s been so cold here in Colorado so we’ve been cooped up in the house quite a bit but we still try to get outside and play in the snow. I’m excited for spring and for the warmer weather so we can spend more time outdoors!
Sophia has been wanting to do everything herself and is very much in the “I want to do it myself” stage. Amelia wants to do everything that Sophia is doing or wants the same toy that she is playing with. One minute they’re playing together and the next, they’re fighting. While they have their moments, they’re also very sweet and loving with each other. They always look out for one another!
I’m happy that my family is healthy (for now) and is hopefully staying clear from any more illnesses this season. Is it just my family or is it going around? I’m grateful that I’m able to raise my girls while staying home full time with them. It’s definitely not easy and some days I’m counting down the minutes until my girls are in bed so that I can have the evening to myself. But it’s so worth it! I love sharing bits and pieces of my life with you all and hope you can relate to it.
Thanks for reading my life update!
