Hi friends! I wanted to share an update on all things Amelia, and how she is growing and developing! She is 6 months old and I am just amazed at how much she has grown since we brought her home. If you want to know about Amelia’s birth story, you can read it here.
Amelia is truly the sweetest and most calm, easy baby ever. She is definitely a mama’s girl and I’m truly enjoying this stage with her!
Milestones
At Amelia’s 6 month check-up appointment, she weighed in at 18 pounds 8 ounces (85th percentile) and is 2 feet 2.5 inches tall (70th percentile). Her head is 17.24 inches (87th percentile). She is such a chunky baby! She is wearing 12-18 month clothing and is wearing all of Sophia’s old clothes. I feel like it’s a matter of time before I’ll be buying two of everything in the same size!
Another fun milestone is that Amelia started sitting up on her own. We spend a lot of time on the floor playing with toys or reading books. She isn’t a fan of tummy time and still hasn’t been able to roll over. We’ve tried getting her to roll over, and work on this daily but she still refuses! I’m not too worried about it… I know she will roll over eventually haha!
Amelia said her first word this month, she can say DADA! She says it constantly and it’s the cutest thing ever. She has definitely discovered her voice and has turned into quite the chatty baby. I think it’s helped that she hears her big sister talk all day long!
Eating
We’re still going strong with breastfeeding at 6 months and I’m so thankful we’ve been able to last this long. I remember with Sophia it was getting so tough by this point. I hope to continue breastfeeding for at least a year, if not more. I love the bond that I have with Mia when she nurses.
When she turned 6 months, I started implementing baby purées and I quickly realized I don’t have the time to sit there and spoon feed Amelia all while having a toddler. I’ve decided to do baby-led weaning from here on out… We did BLW with Sophia and it was nice to have her in charge of feeding herself.
It helped her with hand-eye coordination and she tried a variety of foods by the time she was one. She pretty much ate everything we ate which is why it was so convenient for us. Although BLW can be super messy, it’s fun to have Amelia be a part of family meal times. She’s loving it so far!
Sleeping
Where do I even begin? From the start, Amelia was always a great sleeper. When she was a newborn I would put her to sleep drowsy but awake and she quickly learned to put herself to sleep. She would wake up once a night to nurse and then would go right back to sleep until around 8:00am.
Well about two months ago, our whole family got sick with a nasty stomach bug. And then both our girls got sick with chest colds after that. When Amelia was sick she woke up often and wanted to nurse, she became dependent on me putting her back to sleep. Since then she’s been waking up a couple times a night and mama is exhausted!
Amelia is still sleeping in our room and we plan to move her into the nursery after the holidays. We have plans for Christmas, my birthday (Dec 29th) and New Years so we wanted to wait until life calms down again. Once she’s officially sleeping in her room, I will be sleep training her in hopes that she can sleep through the night without needing me to soothe her.
My husband and I sleep trained Sophia at 6 months and it was the best thing we did for our family! I know sleep training isn’t for everybody but it worked wonders for us. If you’re interested in my approach to sleep training, be on the lookout for an upcoming post about how we did it and how it helped us so much!

Amelia is obsessed with her big sister! She smiles and giggles at her all the time, and is always watching her from afar. For the most part Sophia is very sweet to Amelia, she always gives her kisses or brings her a toy. I love watching the bond that these two have already.
Another thing that she is loving is looking at herself in the mirror. We usually spend time every day playing in front of the mirror because she thinks it’s the funniest thing ever!
Amelia is also loving bath time! I usually put both girls in the bath together and Amelia becomes super giddy and excited. She splashes her legs and laughs at big sister. Although bath time can be super chaotic sometimes, the girls seem to really enjoy hanging out together before bedtime!
I feel like time is flying by faster with the second baby, and I just want time to slow down a little bit. There is nothing more in life that gives me joy than my two girls. I’ve been making a conscience effort to take in these moments that I have with my girls being so young. Amelia definitely was the most sweetest surprise this year, and I’m so grateful to be her mama!
